Hello, all! |
Absolutely fascinated with various eras, particularly Victorian times and the Black Death that hit London in the 1600s. I was wondering if anyone had any interesting articles/information concerning the plague, I was once told a story where a ship docked filled with bodies who had been taken by it and have been trying to find more about it. Gruesome stuff!!!
Anyway! I come bearing and interesting flickr site too;
This guy has been collecting woodcuts, drawings and photographs of incredibly unusual scenes involving to name a few; death, witchcraft and sex ranging from various periods. I reccomend a look if you feel like being shocked and amazed.
Thanks for the link! I love pen and ink drawings so this is wonderful.
Keep reading, there's loads of it!
Thats really interesting (: I have a few books I got off amazon that involved stuff on the black death, and sometimes, just getting books from that period, of famous people, tells you a whole lot about that time period, as well as the person.
Hell, I found out my mothers home town was mentioned in a document about that black death @.@
Not an article but a book I read recently: The Black Death: an Intimate History by John Hatcher part-fictionalises an account of what happened in an English village, which allows him to make some interesting assumptions about what people felt and did during the time.
I'll have a look, thank you. I'm currently reading a fictional novel called Company of Liars, which is involving a plague & great.
Seriously wonderful - thank you!
Glad you're enjoying them.
there's a really great book called plagues and peoples by william h. mcneill. it talks about the plague epidemically through out history, not specific to victorian or elizabethan eras.
Wonderful, i'll look it up thanks!
